Gloria Faerber

Professor Gloria Färber is a leading German cardiothoracic surgeon who specialises in minimal-invasive techniques, heart valve and heart failure surgery, clinical-translational research on heart failure and surgical innovation. Her surgical spectrum covers the entire field of adult cardiac surgery, with particular emphasis on reconstructive valve surgery, aortic surgery, the Ross procedure, and total arterial bypass surgery - preferably performed using minimally invasive techniques or as an OPCAB procedure. Another key area of focus mechanical circulatory support and transplant medicine.

Prof. Färber completed her surgical training with formative positions in Freiburg, Leipzig and Jena, achieving board certification in heart and thoracic surgery. She has held senior leadership roles in university heart surgery departments, including serving as director of the Clinic for Cardiac Surgery at the Universitätsklinikum des Saarlandes in Homburg. In 2025, she assumed the position of Director of the Department Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery at the University Hospital Würzburg, where she also holds the corresponding endowed professorship.

Her professional work integrates high-complexity surgical care with research and education. She is active in national and international scientific societies, including leadership roles within the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) as Aquired Cardiac Domain Chair and active membership within the AATS, and the German Society for Thoracic, Heart and Vascular Surgery (DGTHG). Prof. Färber is also a founder and head of the network Woman in cardiac surgery, promoting mentoring and training for female cardiac surgeons.
