Requirements for AATS Participation in International Educational Programs

Vetted by the AATS Education Committees, the AATS Executive Committee and/or Board of Directors approves requests for AATS participation in international educational programs. These collaborations may include but are not limited to the selection of AATS speakers, joint programs/courses, or exporting of an AATS program/course. Those interested in a formal collaboration need to review the following minimum requirements for international education collaborations. Requirements for AATS Branded Speakers

  • Sponsoring group must be either an institution or professional society/association
  • Request must include:
    • Proposed program (if available), including specific description of topics, number of speakers required, program objectives, and target audience
    • Description of meeting: Title/Date/Location of Event/Sponsoring Organization(s)
    • Description of the need for expert faculty and education in cardiothoracic surgery
    • Confirmation of business class travel or unrestricted coach travel, hotel accommodations, and meeting registration for all AATS invited speakers
  • Speaker(s) must be noted as an AATS member on program literature, marketing materials, and website
  • The Director of the program must provide feedback to the AATS Education Committee regarding the educational value of the activity and its relevance to the attendees
  • AATS will not be responsible for any pre/post meeting financial support of the program
  • The sponsoring association or institution will be responsible for the overall management of the program

Requirements for Co-Sponsorship or Joint Sessions with AATS

  • Sponsoring group must be either a professional society/association or an institution. AATS prefers to be the sole co-sponsoring professional association.
  • Proposed meeting topics and content must be aligned with AATS member interests, the AATS Mission, and AATS values. AATS also strongly encourages that programs included multidisciplinary participation from faculty across aligned specialties.
  • All requests must be submitted prior to the program in consideration is finalized. AATS prefers that requests are received no less than six months in advance.
  • Request must include:
    • Proposed program (if available), including specific description of topics, number of speakers required, program objectives, and target audience
    • Description of meeting: Title/Date/Location of Event/Sponsoring Organization(s)
    • Description of the need for expert faculty and education in cardiothoracic surgery, as well as specific description of topics and number of speakers required
    • Confirmation of business class travel, hotel accommodations, and meeting registration for all AATS invited faculty
    • Confirmation that the sponsoring association/institution will be responsible for the overall management of the program
    • Proposed Budget
    • Summary of past meeting attendance, including number of surgeons/MDs, allied health and demographics, and anticipated attendance
  • At least one AATS representative will serve on the Program Committee to develop and approve the final program
  • The Director of the program and the AATS representative must provide feedback to the AATS Education Committees regarding the educational value of the activity and its relevance to the attendees
  • AATS will not be responsible for any pre/post meeting financial support of the program
  • AATS will provide marketing assistance, including blast email(s), distributing program literature at all AATS events
  • AATS reserves the right to negotiate a royalty fee

Requirements for Export of AATS Programs (ie. PG Courses and Stand-Alone Courses)

  • Partner should be either a professional society/association, institution and/or recognized CME provider
  • All requests must be submitted prior to the program in consideration is finalized. AATS Prefers that requests are received no less than six months in advance.
  • AATS names/approves North American Program Director and Host Director to oversee program development and management of PG Courses
  • AATS approves International Co-Director of Stand-Alone Courses to work with current Directors of AATS Courses
  • Program must be in a location where there is a demonstrable need for expert faculty and educational content in cardiothoracic surgery, technology and techniques
  • Request must include:
    • Description of the need for expert faculty and education in cardiothoracic surgery, as well as specific description of topics and number of speakers required
    • Description of meeting: Title/Date/Location of Event/Partnering Organization(s)
    • Confirmation that partnering organization/ institution will be responsible for the overall management of the program and will provide staff and program planning assistance for the entire meeting. Requests should demonstrate local resources and show evidence of commitment from local organization/affiliated association/institution.
    • Summary of past meeting attendance, including number of surgeons/MDs, allied health and demographics, and anticipated attendance
    • Budget, including business class travel, hotel accommodations and registration for all AATS speakers
  • AATS will not be responsible for any pre/post meeting financial support of the program
  • AATS will provide marketing assistance, including blast email(s), distributing program literature at all AATS events
  • AATS reserves the right to negotiate a royalty fee

The following will apply to all requests noted above:

  • AATS must review and approve all marketing materials using the AATS name and logo
  • AATS will be given an opportunity to provide additional marketing materials for distribution at the meeting.
  • The AATS Education Committee will review each proposal and provide recommendations to the AATS Board for consideration.
