Dr. Schroder completed his General and Thoracic Surgery residencies at Duke and was then brought on staff. He is the Surgical Director of the Heart Transplant Program and Co-Director of the Cardiothoracic Surgery ICU. He is the National PI of both the EXPAND Heart trial (the use of warm ex-vivo perfusion for extended criteria donor hearts) and the TranMedics US DCD Trial. Dr. Schroder performed the first adult DCD heart transplant in North America on December 1st, 2019.
