My First Experience with AATS:

I attended the AATS meeting in San Francisco,1980. It was a humbling and equally prestigious to meet the most famous surgeons and to hear their experiences.

Why I became an AATS member:

It is prestigious and difficult, but the ultimate academic achievement

The most impactful presentation I have seen at an AATS meeting:

The presentation by Denton Cooley on Stone heart and the ensuing discussions.

The first presentation I gave is:

I have not presented a paper at the AATS meeting

The first paper I had published is:

I plan on becoming more involved in the organization through:

I have been a member since 2009 and have sponsored 5 other surgeons,4 from India and one from Japan for membership. I have been a member of the membership committee. I would love to contribute as mentor and educate young students.

A significant case/patient interaction that impacted my career is:

The biggest impact my mentor had on my career is:

Compassion, creativity, dedication, innovation, hard work and mentoring.

The topic most important to advancing the field of CT Surgery is:

Tenacity of purpose and desire to find innovative and long lasting solutions for difficult problems, like producing an ideal valve substitute.

The most pressing issues impacting CT surgery are:

The lack of facilities in low and middle income countries, the impact of expensive high tech solutions like TAVR , reducing the cost of care and increasing availability of Hospitals.

Advice for Trainees:

The world needs many more Cardiothoracic surgeons, Train and contribute.Do not discard time tested procedures in order to embrace high tech solutions.
