Join the AATS Foundation in honoring a leader in thoracic surgery whose visionary contributions to lung transplantation, academic leadership, and surgical education have left an enduring mark on the specialty. Over the past four decades, Dr. G. Alexander “Alec” Patterson has made lasting contributions to both surgical practice and education. He has held leadership roles at the University of Toronto and Washington University in St. Louis, where he served as Chief of the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and led one of the nation’s most prominent lung transplant programs.
The Alec Patterson program’s mission is unique within the AATS Foundation and provides funding for:
- Scholarships for Surgeon-Scientist: Suppurating research that drives improved patient care
- Research scholarships focused on thoracic and transplant surgery
- Grants to advance thoracic surgical practice in developed and developing countries
- Visiting Professorships
- Lectureship at the AATS Annual Meeting focused on excellence in thoracic surgery
