LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the end of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the indications for the surgical treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and rhythm disorders;
  • Identify basic underlying mechanisms of arrhythmias, and apply techniques in cardiac recording and mapping, and clinical electrophysiology;
  • Assess various operative techniques for the treatment of arrhythmias and discuss postprocedural cardiac monitoring and appropriate follow-up;
  • Examine interventional approaches to atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, inappropriate sinus tachycardia, and transvenous and epicardial lead implantation and extraction techniques.
